Mag Wheels and Misc Aluminum Polishing

To keep the aluminum shinny is quit a trick. If you stay after it and keep it clean and polished at least weekly your OK. However let it go for a bit and things get pretty dull.

Best advice - wash the bike clean the wheels with soap and water at least weekly. If the wheels are in good shape use Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. This is the best I have seen. It doesn't take to much rubbing and things are chrome looking. buff off the rubbing compound with a clean soft rag. If the wheels are oxidized then you will have to do some elbow work. Wet sand with 2000 grit sand paper until the wheels are a even shinny color. Then apply the Mothers to really shine them up. In really bad cases you may have to use 1000 grit first and step your way down.

To speed things up use a electric drill and a buffing wheel, coat the wheel with Mothers and buff away. Ideal time to get them to a high polish is with the wheels off like during a tire change. I have tried waxing the wheels and even coating them with lacquer once they were polished - wax will water spot and lacquer yellows and then you have the issue of trying to remove the stuff - Just keep up the polishing and they will stay new looking.

No big surprises just some common sense and elbow grease.
