Poor man's GPS - Wayfinder 2000 I tried normal $3.00 compasses with no luck. The magnetic fields created by the front speakers screws up all compasses. I came across these Wayfinder units that adjust for stray magnetic fields. The reports are good, the thing works, it is not as good as a GPS however is all I need and the cost is much less.

Another eBay purchase - Wayfinder 2000 $29.00 with shipping. Trick was to find a good mounting spot. I tried above the dash stuck to the windscreen but the magnetic field from the speakers was to strong. I temporarily fastened it to the left handle bar which seems to work fine. So I permanently fastened it to the top of the clutch fluid cover. I figured the worst would be I would have to buy a replacement cover - couldn't be to much.
As you can see it was not much of an install - just positioned the wayfinder so it would be parallel with the windshield - this is important if you want it to be true. I marked the hole locations, removed the cover and drilled then screwed down the bracket. I rounded off the corners and painted the mount flat black so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb - These units are available in black also which may be a better color choice.
I shorted the temperature wire to 2" and mounted the sensor to the unit itself. The power cord was routed along the left handle bar and connects over to where my heated grip control is located - you may need to rout it into the left or right pocket to a suitable power source. Install took less than 15 minutes total. Programming is fun - you have to hit the cal button then drive in a circle so it can adjust for magnetic fields the bike give off.. Neighbors thought I was goofy. It has a built in battery but the full time power if the way to go. Back light comes on automatically when it get dark plus you have full time temp readings. Not bad for the price!
